We all know what they are experts on, but we want to know what makes our speakers tick. In this series, we sit down with some of our key speakers for 60 seconds to find out a bit more about them before we see them on stage at the All Payments Expo in New Orleans, 21-23 March 2016.
60 Seconds with…
1. What is your personal philosophy?
No Plan B. When I started this company I quit my day job, sold my house and threw every penny I had at it. As with any business there have been tough times but no matter how bad things got, I just reminded myself that the alternative involved daily commuting!!
2. What’s the weirdest job you’ve ever had?
I started my working life as a butcher which I guess is pretty far removed from where I am now! I still literally wear the scars!
3. If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?
Car modifier. I’m a total petrolhead/gas monkey. I’m flying to New Orleans with an overnight layover in Dallas purely so I can go to Gas Monkey Garage.
4. Disruption is always on the tip of everyone’s tongue. In your opinion, what is going to be the ultimate game-changer for the payments industry?
I never thought I would say the words, but as far as Europe is concerned, the UK Government! The introduction of the new Payments Systems Regulator is already having a massive effect. One of their first moves has been to break the mainstream banks stranglehold over the payments infrastructure which is busting the industry wide open and finally giving us something approaching a level playing field.
5. What are you most looking forward to at the All Payments Expo 2016 in New Orleans?
Can I say Bourbon Street? I’m really looking forward to hosting the Paybefore Awards with Loraine DeBonis, it’s great to be able to recognise the tremendous talent in our industry – and then go to Bourbon Street!
Craig James will be leading the Prepaid Compliance Deep-Dive session and hosting the PayBefore Awards at the All Payments Expo in New Orleans, 21st – 23rd March 2016.
